A good communicator needs to be a good listener who practises active listening. He needs to understand the context of what is being said, adds his response to it and then speaks with clarity and simplicity so that the other party will understand him crystal clear.

Hence, communication skills does involve many years of practice. In schools, students were trained in listening comprehension, the word 'comprehension' meaning 'understanding'. The only flaw to this is that this is only one part of communciation, and indeed many students do not progress to become effective speakers.
