Hailed as one of America’s most iconic and beloved sports, baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams. A team consists nine players who each take turns batting and fielding. When a batting team attempts to score runs by hitting a ball that is thrown by the pitcher with a baseball bat, the batter shall run counter-clockwise around a series of four bases: first, second, third, and home plate. The goal of the game is to score or ‘shoot’ a run by having a player advance around the bases and return to home plate.
